Original Sasha Outfits

Welcome to My Collection of Original Sasha Outfits

I have been collecting original items of Sasha and Gregor clothing for years.  The collection began as many of my Sasha purchases arrived with little or no clothing.

Several sources of information have become firm favourites:-

  1. Dorisanne Osborn's wonderful book "Sasha Dolls Through the Years" as a visual illustration of the outfits and the dolls.

  2. Sasha Dolls Charts - The English Production and The 1990's Gotz Production - compiled by Susanna Lewis.

  3. Dorisanne Osborn wrote fascinating and detailed articles about many of the outfits in her Friends of Sasha Magazine.  I have many of them but not a complete collection.  Really interesting to read.

  4. I have collected some of the original Sasha Doll Catalogues - these are a wonderful resource showing the dolls wearing their outfits and also photographs showing all the individual items of clothing within an outfit laid out.   Some of these images are also on the back of the boxed outfits.

  5. I have several large catalogues fro the 1990's Gotz collection and they also have excellent photographic images of the dolls and their outfits.

  6. Susanna Lewis has a wonderful reference archive of the 1990's Gotz Sasha dolls on her website http://www.sashadoll.com/gotzarchive.html .

As the sources above cover all the technical collectors information, I thought I would look at my original Sasha outfits in a personal and quirkier way.

One of the interesting things that I have noticed about the Sasha models in the catalogues is that the girls have straight or slightly wavy hair rather than the heavy curls that the late 70's and 80's girls have.  I do like the straighter hair look, although, my nieces love to brush the curly hair.

As my original outfits have been bought mainly as individual items until I had collected the complete outfit and the odd time as a boxed outfit, I often used them with other pieces of clothing to create a different look.  I also dress different Sasha in outfits that they would not originally have come in, partly because, I do not have one of every type of Sasha made throughout the production nor every outfit... some are still on my wish list.

The non-original items of clothing are from my Sasha dolls personal collection and sometimes have not been made by me.

1960's Outfits

Sasha Brunette "Party" Pip is one of my side part brunettes and she dates from 1969.  I love the style of this A line sleeveless pale pink dress with its sash and white peter pan collar.  Very cute.  The original outfit has matching pink pants, white ankle socks and white leather Mary Jane shoes with prym snaps.

My Sasha "Jeans" (1968) has borrowed the pink party dress.  She has chosen to wear striped tights (pink, mauve, sky blue and white) and her favourite pink suede boots and her mauve coat.  Her hair is held back by two butterfly hair clips.

in the meantime extra of Keira

Sasha Redhead "Dungarees" Poppy is my 1968 Sasha Redhead "Dungarees" and twin to Peter.   I do not have her original grey dungarees, they are still on my wish list.  She has the light blue dungarees and blouse which I bought a couple of years ago.  It is a lovely colour of blue.  Her white sandals are replicas made by JJ shoes.  Her underwear is a pair of white pants and a white vest.

Keira, dates from 1969, and was originally a little brunette gregor with falling hair.  She was rerooted by Lisa Hartley as a side-part redhead.  She is truly beautiful and the pale blue dungarees look very cute on her.

1970's Outfits

Sasha Blonde "Long Dress" The long dress outfit, is a typical mid-70's maxi style dress.  I love the length of the sleeve.  My girl has a short bob (due to uneven hair cut and a strong smell of mothball).  She is however, very pretty.  I think the hair style really suits her.  Her underwear is white vest and pants and she has white socks.  The shoes are white court style.

Kathleen has borrowed the dress as she says it looks so pretty with her beautiful green eyes.  She likes the yellow green shawl and yellow slip on shoes.  The outfit is very cute on her.  Her hair style is very typical of the mid-70's and is long and straight with a layered fringe.

"Denim Jeans" The "Denim Jeans" outfit is a "dress set" and was never sold on a doll.  It is a really cute outfit and one of Sasha's favourites.  There is a short sleeved white blouse with a peter pan collar, a pair of dark denim jeans, brown sandals and matching brown belt and of course white underwear.  I love this outfit as it is just so versatile and every doll looks great wearing it.

Anna borrowed the outfit to because she said it looked cute underneath her colourful bramble stitch cardigan.  She wore little navy pumps with the outfit giving it a more modern twist.  I often think that Anna has a very up to date look with her long flicked across her forehead fringe.

1980's Outfits

Honey Blonde "Party" Olwyn kindly volunteered to wear this outfit for me.  It is as yet still only a partial outfit.  I do not have the correct 1980's Mary Jane shoes so she is wearing a Gotz pair instead.  The dress is a very cute little turquoise polka dot cotton print fabric with a drop waist style and short gathered sleeves.  She has a turquoise ribbon sasha tied in a bow at the back and a turquoise bow on a barette for her hair.  She has white underwear.

My early 70's waif liked the dress, but looking cute and pretty isn't really her style, so she added a short sleeved denim jacket with the collar turned up for an edgier look.  She is wearing white shoes and knee length socks which she prefers to have wrinkled around her ankles.  She still added the ribbon to her hair because it thought it was kinda cute.

LE Sasha "Harlequin" Anna, my Harlequin, is wearing her original outfit.  A diamon print short dress, elasticated at the hips, matching pants, a straw hat, barrette, white sandals (seldom worn because they have a habit of staining ankles) and a red painted guitar.  She looks very cool playing the guitar but I must admit this has never been one of my favourite outfits.

Starla borrowed the dress and added shocking pink leggings which match the pink diamond in the dress.  She added her magenta coloured ugg boots and although she had her hair pulled back with the barrette, she rather liked the straw hat when put on at a jaunty angle.  The bright colours suit the brunette Sasha.

Sasha Blonde "Wintersport" The wintersport outfit is rather cute.  I like the style of the zippered top with the matching leggings.  She has a navy hat with a red edge, a white t-shirt and white pants.  Her white boots have dark laces.  The outfit has no socks.

Ffyon, my pintucks borrowed the outfit to go out with her friend.  She made only a couple of small changes to it.  She grabbed Anika's black boots which have red topstitching and borrowed Sandy's red and white striped socks as she thought it a bit cold to be going out with out any socks.  I think she suits the outfit.  She is holding a pair of ski poles.

1990's Gotz Outfits

Additional photos to come
Winter Outfit The Gotz Winter outfit is really cute.  I was lucky to be able to buy it in two parts, the boots came from Shelly's website and the outfit was an ebay find.  (I am still looking for a buckle for the belt so if anyone knows where I can find a similar one to the original please I would be grateful if they would let me know).  The ski jacket is a lovely navy cord with white fur edging around the hood.  Red ski pants and the cutest ski boots.  A white t-shirt and pants.

The only change made here is the addition of the most amazing miniature skis and ski poles.  I did a swap with their maker a couple of months ago.  They are quite literally works of art and the outfit looks like it was made for them.

Alberto's Waif Outfit Alberto doesn't like looking like a waif from the last century all the time.  But he is rather fond of his faded suede jacket.  He has teamed it with a short sleeved knitted sweater, a pair of dark denim trendon jeans, socks and black leather laced boots.  Just about to head off with his friends for the afternoon.

This is an ongoing project and there are more photographs to be taken... so more coming soon...
